Kipping Ring Dips

Are you interested in learning a bit about Kipping Ring Dips and how I go about training them?

Kipping skills all have something in common- the Active/Passive position. On Kipping Ring Dips this is the Low Catch position. When an athlete is attempting to kip a movement, the “springiness” of the movement stems from the insertion points of the muscle and tendon. That area of the muscle and tendon must be exercised (safely) in order to make gains in the amount of “bounce” an athlete can get during the lowest part of the kipping skill: On pull-ups this is the long hang position; kipping HSPU it’s the knees toward the floor position; and in the ring dip it’s the low catch position.

I’ve created this article for those of you who want to geek out on the science of it all. It’s been many years that I wanted to write about this, but only now I have something organized to share (and illustrated by yours truly as well).

Education for Athletes (and coaches)

My gymnastics seminars are great for both athletes and coaches. I use simple techniques and real-life examples of physics to make these seemingly complicated movement patterns actually seem quite simple.

Though I am no artist, expect to get my best examples of stick figures doing great gymnastics things. You can also expect me to talk about specific angles for body positions, the reason you should video yourself and your peers, and many other coaching tips that can be utilized by anybody who comes through the gym doors.

Please watch the video below for an example of how I coach!
